Here are some recommendations for how to maintain your new or existing lock:
- Locks generally need little to no maintenance, but as needed use purpose-made lubricants such as Triflow, Super Lube, or Houdini lock lubricants.
- Avoid WD-40 and graphite – both of these tend to gum up the delicate internals of locks and cause more issues than they solve. Squeaky hinges though, are fine.
- As your keys begin to show signs of wear (rounded teeth, bending, not inserting or removing smoothly, not turning smoothly, etc) give us a call as soon as you notice, and we can cut you brand new keys and provide some preventative maintenance for your lock and keys.
- If you notice any stickiness or difficulty using your lock, call us as soon as possible – nobody wants to get locked out at 2am in the rain!
